Petersburg, late 19th century
Dimensions: 3 × 10.2 × 7.2 cmCarved from richly banded agate in warm amber and cream tones, the kovsh is elegantly mounted with a sculptural gold handle of coiled, ribbon-like design. The refined balance between the natural stone’s beauty and the simplicity of its gold ornament reflects the sophisticated aesthetic of St. Petersburg court jewelers at the turn of the century.
Friedrich Koehli, a Swiss-born jeweler who founded his St. Petersburg firm in 1874, became one of the most respected goldsmiths of the Imperial Court. By 1902, his workshop was appointed official supplier to Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, Grand Duke Pavel Alexandrovich, and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna, Duchess of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Exhibiting alongside Fabergé at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle, Koehli served as a jury member and gained international recognition.
In 1903 he partnered with his son, Theodor-Friedrich (Fyodor Fyodorovich) Koehli, establishing F. & F. Koehli, which continued to produce fine gold and enamel works until 1911.

Estimate: 4000-6000€Cameo Pendant with Portrait of Catherine the Great
Ekaterinburg Lapidary Factory, second half of the 18th century
Silver-gilt, cut topaz
An oval pendant set with a finely carved topaz cameo depicting the profile portrait of Empress Catherine II, mounted in a silver-gilt frame with suspension loop. The work is attributed to the Imperial Lapidary Factory in Ekaterinburg, one of the foremost centers of stone carving in Russia.
Founded in 1726, the Ekaterinburg Lapidary Factory became Russia’s leading center for hardstone carving. Initially producing small items from jasper and quartz, it expanded in the mid-18th century to supply marble details for Imperial palaces. From 1782 the factory specialized in large vases and bowls from jasper, malachite, and other stones, later creating monumental works in the Empire style that served as diplomatic gifts.
In the 19th century, under the patronage of the Academy of Arts and later the Imperial Cabinet, the factory produced malachite vases, church furnishings, and decorative objects for the Imperial court, securing its place as one of the foremost lapidary workshops in Europe.

Maker: Alex Coppel, Solingen
Markings: Double-headed Imperial eagle, “N II” monogram, and “SLAVA” stamp on hilt
Scabbard: Original metal scabbard with twin suspension ringsA fine and scarce Imperial Russian officer’s shashka, Model 1913, fitted with a German-manufactured blade by Alex Coppel of Solingen. Produced before World War I for the Imperial cavalry under Tsar Nicholas II, this example combines refined Solingen craftsmanship with distinct Russian Imperial symbolism.
The gently curved, single-edged blade with triple fullers is etched on one side with the Imperial double-headed eagle, and on the reverse with the monogram “N II” beneath a crown, representing Emperor Nicholas II. The ricasso is stamped “ALEX COPPEL SOLINGEN” with the company’s sword-and-scales emblem.
The wooden hilt, shaped in the classic shashka form with a beaked pommel, bears a clear “SLAVA” stamp, likely denoting inspection or later arsenal service marking. The weapon is accompanied by its original metal scabbard with two suspension rings, showing honest age wear but retaining its original fittings and structure.

Samuel Zacharias Filander, born in Finland in 1809, trained in Friedrichshamn and worked in St Petersburg from the 1830s. He later returned to Finland, then again settled in St Petersburg, where he became a master silversmith. After his death in 1868, the workshop was continued by his widow; the mark “S.F.” remained in use until the early 1880s. The gently curved, single-edged blade with triple fullers is etched on one side with the Imperial double-headed eagle, and on the reverse with the monogram “N II” beneath the Imperial crown, representing Emperor Nicholas II. The ricasso bears the maker’s mark: “Peter Daniel Lüneschloss Waffen-Fabrik Solingen”, accompanied by the company’s sword-and-scales emblem.
The bakelite hilt, shaped in the classic shashka form with a beaked pommel, retains its original fittings and surface finish. The weapon is accompanied by its original metal scabbard with two suspension rings, showing honest age wear and patina while remaining complete and structurally sound.

Estimate: 1000-1200€An impressive Russian silver-gilt and champlevé enamel spoon, the pear-shaped bowl richly decorated with scrolling floral ornament in polychrome enamels against a white ground, bordered in cobalt blue with gilt stars. The handle enameled en suite and terminating in a star motif. Maker’s mark of I. Sazikov manufactory, St. Petersburg, late 19th century.
Length: 21.4 cm
Weight: 84 gThe Sazikov firm was founded in Moscow in 1793 by Pavel Fedorovich Sazikov, a silversmith and merchant. In 1810 he established a factory and shop for silverware, later inherited by his son Ignaty Pavlovich Sazikov (1793–1868), one of the most distinguished jewelers of mid-19th century Russia. Ignaty expanded production, introduced specialization of labor and modern equipment, and established a training department for craftsmen. He also collaborated with leading sculptors and artists, including Ivan Vitali and Pyotr Klodt, to create designs.
By the mid-19th century, the firm was considered among the finest Russian jewelers and a pioneer of the national style in decorative arts. It earned numerous gold medals at Russian industrial exhibitions (1835–1865) and international recognition, including a gold medal and the Order of the Legion of Honor at the 1851 London and 1867 Paris World Exhibitions. Sazikov’s small-scale sculpture on Russian themes became especially celebrated.
After Ignaty’s death in 1868, the firm passed to his sons Sergei, Pavel, and Valentin, with branches in Moscow and St. Petersburg, until 1887, when it was sold to Ivan Khlebnikov’s firm. This spoon exemplifies the refined artistry and technical mastery that made Sazikov a leading name in Russian silver.
