    Lot 0236
A Russian Cavalry officer’s “Golden weapon”
    Estimate: 10000-12000€

A Russian Cavalry officer’s “Golden weapon”.
A unique sword using Zlatoust-made blade. Possibly belonged to a Polish-national officer. Made in or after 1858 as a custom order. The sword is similar to the cavalry model 1827 officer sword, made lighter by making the grip with no additional bars and with the smallsword-like carrying system with hook instead of the rings to serve as a walking-out and not a heavy combat weapon. As many custom-ordered swords this one is not strictly following standard patterns. The blade is engraved with a very peculiar battle scene with cavalrymen in Uhlan uniforms fighting against exotic-looking mounted troops. It is possible that the engravings are dedicated to the deed for which the owner had been awarded the right to bear the “Golden weapon”. There is no inscription “For bravery” on the sword, so, it is possible that it belonged to a doctor or the government official that served in the Uhlan regiment, or the owner did not want to make the inscription. There are some similar model 1827 officer swords with no additional bard on the handle existing that belonged to Polish nationality officers, the most famous is the sword of General Jozef Dwernicki..Blade width: 2.7 cm.

    Starting price: 8000€
    Estimate: 10000-12000€

Imperial German Naval Officer’s Sword with Damascus Blade
    Estimate: 10000-12000€

Imperial German Naval Officer’s Sword with Damascus Blade

Maker: WKC (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.), Solingen
    Period: Circa 1900–1914

A superb Imperial German naval officer’s sword (Kaiserliche Marine pattern) featuring a Damascus steel blade of exceptional quality, finely etched with floral scrolls, naval motifs, and crowned anchor emblems on both sides. The blade shows a beautiful watered pattern typical of hand-forged Damascus steel, indicative of a deluxe private-purchase officer’s weapon.

The ricasso is clearly stamped with the WKC Solingen trademark — the knight’s head and king’s head — one of Solingen’s most respected cutlers.

The hilt is of gilded brass, richly decorated with acanthus leaves, oak branches, and the Imperial crown over fouled anchor in relief. The lion’s head pommel has inset red glass “eyes,” and the white grip is bound with gilt wire. The original officer’s bullion portépée is still attached.

The sword retains its black-lacquered metal scabbard with gilt brass fittings and two suspension rings, showing only light wear.

    Dimensions:

    Overall length: 98 cm

    Blade length: 81,4 cm

Blade width at ricasso: 2.2 cm

    Remarks:

A high-grade Imperial German naval officer’s presentation sword, manufactured by WKC, Solingen, with a Damascus steel blade — a rare and desirable variant carried by senior officers of the Kaiserliche Marine during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II

    Period: circa 1900–1914

An outstanding and extremely rare deluxe Imperial German naval officer’s sword, featuring a highly unusual lion-head pommel with one green and one red glass eye — a very scarce variant among known examples. The lion’s head is of a rare sculptural type with exceptionally fine detailing and a powerful expression, symbolizing strength and command.

The gilded brass guard is richly pierced and engraved with floral scrolls and the Imperial crown over a fouled anchor, representing the Kaiserliche Marine. The white grip, bound with gilt wire, remains in excellent condition and retains the original silver-and-red bullion portépée.

The magnificent Damascus steel blade displays a beautiful watered pattern throughout, enhanced with deep blue and gilded panels depicting naval trophies, crowned anchors, and acanthus scrollwork.

Presented with its black-lacquered metal scabbard with gilded brass fittings and two suspension rings, all in excellent preservation.
