Imperial Russian Officer’s Shashka (Model 1913)
    Estimate: 5000-6000€

Imperial Russian Officer’s Shashka (Model 1913)

    Maker: Alex Coppel, Solingen
Markings: Double-headed Imperial eagle, “N II” monogram, and “SLAVA” stamp on hilt
Scabbard: Original metal scabbard with twin suspension rings

A fine and scarce Imperial Russian officer’s shashka, Model 1913, fitted with a German-manufactured blade by Alex Coppel of Solingen. Produced before World War I for the Imperial cavalry under Tsar Nicholas II, this example combines refined Solingen craftsmanship with distinct Russian Imperial symbolism.

The gently curved, single-edged blade with triple fullers is etched on one side with the Imperial double-headed eagle, and on the reverse with the monogram “N II” beneath a crown, representing Emperor Nicholas II. The ricasso is stamped “ALEX COPPEL SOLINGEN” with the company’s sword-and-scales emblem.

The wooden hilt, shaped in the classic shashka form with a beaked pommel, bears a clear “SLAVA” stamp, likely denoting inspection or later arsenal service marking. The weapon is accompanied by its original metal scabbard with two suspension rings, showing honest age wear but retaining its original fittings and structure.

    Dimensions:

    Total length: 96.5 cm

    Blade length: 79.4 cm

    Blade width: 3.2 cm

    Condition:

Very good example with crisp etchings, sharp blade edge, and strong markings throughout. Minor wear and light patina to hilt and scabbard consistent with age. All components appear original and matching.

    Remarks:

An authentic and highly collectible example of the Imperial Russian Model 1913 officer’s shashka, with Nicholas II monogram, Alex Coppel Solingen blade, and rare “SLAVA” hilt stamp. A distinguished piece of pre-revolutionary Russian military history.

Russian Silver Jam Spoon with Neo-Russian Engraved Decoration, St Petersburg, 1877
    Estimate: 250-300€

Russian silver jam spoon with engraved Neo-Russian decoration.
St Petersburg, workshop of Samuel Zacharias Filander, 1877.
Silver; casting, engraving, chasing, twisting, polishing.
    Length: 19 cm.
    Weight: 95.3 g.
Marks: maker’s mark “S.F.” for Samuel Zacharias Filander; St Petersburg assay mark with assayer’s initials “И.Е” and date 1877; 84 zolotnik silver standard; St Petersburg town mark.
A Russian silver jam spoon with a deep rounded bowl and an elongated stem. The exterior of the bowl is engraved with a stylised Neo-Russian architectural motif: a wooden izba with a steep roof, carved gable, ornamental supports and geometric details recalling traditional Russian timber architecture.
Samuel Zacharias Filander, born in Finland in 1809, trained in Friedrichshamn and worked in St Petersburg from the 1830s. He later returned to Finland, then again settled in St Petersburg, where he became a master silversmith. After his death in 1868, the workshop was continued by his widow; the mark “S.F.” remained in use until the early 1880s. The present spoon, dated 1877 by the assay mark, therefore belongs to the later period of the Filander workshop.
