Lot 0298
A Russian wooden box for a revolver or pistol from the Crimean War period, dated 1854
Estimate: 2500-3000€A Russian wooden box for a revolver or pistol from the Crimean War period, dated 1854. Of historical significance, this box with a pistol or revolver was presented by Russian Duke Sergey Mikhailovich Golitzin to Robert Samson during his visit to the Tula rifle factory. The box has a plate with presentation text in German, since Robert Samson was a Baltic German noble from modern day Estonia, in 1854, part of the Russian Empire. It is very likely that he was a relative of Claudius Hermann von Samson-Himmelstjerna, Russian general and the director of the Tula factory. The duke S.M. Golitzin was a Active Privy Councillor, 1st class, the second person after the Emperor of Russia. The box shows signs of use, and the interior is missing.
