A rare miniature Russian ‘Egoist’ samovar in the shape of a bowl. Maker’s mark of the Vorontsov manufactory in Tula. Made for sale at the famous Mur and Merlis shop in Moscow (now the TSUM department store). Brass. Crane is missing. See a similar example in the Russian Samovar Museum, Code KB 298.

Vasily Fedorovich Torokin, born in Kaslinsky, Ekaterinburg District, worked at the Kusinsky Ironworks from 1859. Starting as a sand preparation worker, he advanced to mold maker and sculptor. A self-taught artist, he studied sculpture under M.D. Kanaev and N.R. Bakh. Torokin created models inspired by sculptors like P.K. Klodt and N.I. Liberikh and developed original iron casting designs. Dimensions: 21 x 18.7 x 9.5 cm.
