In May 1840, artists K. I. Terebenev and P. P. Semechkin received a ten-year privilege for their innovative method of lithographing on faience, porcelain, and glass over the glaze. Their workshop soon became renowned for finely executed lithographed designs that adorned a wide range of decorative objects. The imagery was often inspired by contemporary printed graphics, while portraits of the Romanov dynasty were especially sought after, reflecting both artistic taste and the era’s interest in dynastic representation.
