Rare Russian presentation icon of Mother of God of Fedorovskaya. Wood, tempera. Riza: silver, gilding, cloisonne enamel. Makers mark of Antip Kuzmichev. Moscow, 1887. With donative inscription on the back, describing that this icon were donated to Illariya M. Stavrovskaya from Bishop Guriy Simbirskiy. Bishop Guriy (Sergey Vasilievich Burtasov before tonsure) was born on 30 July 1845 in Burtasi village, Kazan province. He graduated from the Kazan clerical school and seminary. In 1868 he went to Kazan clerical Academy. In 1872 he graduated from the Academy with a degree in theology. His whole life Guriy was devoted to missionary work. He baptized Buryats, established many parish Churches in far East, Samara and Stavropol regions. He founded the baptist charity fund for orphans and widows. For missionary work he was elected the honored member of Kazan clerical Academy in 1902. He died on 5 January 1907. Dimensions: 31.5 X 27 X 3.5 cm.
