He studied at the Tallinn School of Applied Art and later at the Pallas Art School, where he specialized in graphic arts and sculpture. Wiiralt’s career flourished in Paris, where he lived from 1925 to 1938, gaining international recognition, including a gold medal at the 1937 International Graphic Exhibition in Vienna. His works reflect a deep exploration of human nature and societal issues, often through dramatic and dark imagery. Wiiralt’s art is housed in major collections worldwide, including the Art Museum of Estonia and the Albertina in Vienna. He passed away in Paris in 1954 and is buried at Père-Lachaise Cemetery.

Of historical significance, this box with a pistol or revolver was presented by Russian Duke Sergey Mikhailovich Golitzin to Robert Samson during his visit to the Tula rifle factory. The box has a plate with presentation text in German, since Robert Samson was a Baltic German noble from modern day Estonia, in 1854, part of the Russian Empire. It is very likely that he was a relative of Claudius Hermann von Samson-Himmelstjerna, Russian general and the director of the Tula factory. The duke S.M. Golitzin was a Active Privy Councillor, 1st class, the second person after the Emperor of Russia. The box shows signs of use, and the interior is missing.
