This is an exceptionally rare and historically significant officer’s sword from the brief interwar period of the First Latvian Republic. The sword features the Latvian Coat of Arms prominently on the hilt, leaving no doubt as to its official, state-issued status.
A key distinguishing feature is its elegant and scarcer leather scabbard with brass fittings, suggesting a specific dress pattern. The survival of such a potent symbol of Latvian sovereignty, especially in this condition, is remarkable.

This elegant regulation pattern features a slightly curved, single-edged blade with etched panels of naval trophies and floral scrolls, typical of Austro-Hungarian naval officer weapons of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The gilded brass hilt is finely cast with a fouled anchor within a laurel wreath on the guard, surmounted by the Imperial crown. The sharkskin grip, bound with twisted brass wire, remains in very good condition. The sword retains its original leather scabbard with two suspension rings, showing only light age patina.
