Belonged to Duke Nikolay Dmitrievich Kropotkine (6 June 1872 – 11 October 1937) who was also Courland and Livonia vice-governor. In the beginning of the 1900s he inherited patrimonial Borhus estate with the Sagevold castle. After a few years, he turned Sagevold into a famous European resort called “Swiss Livonia”. He also built a railway station, a hotel, and a 900-meter sledding raceway. Part of the land was given to many private cottages and resorts.
