Andres Long was closely associated with the renowned firm Nicholls & Plinke, one of the largest and most prestigious silversmithing enterprises in St. Petersburg. Founded by Charles (Constantin) Nicholls and William Plincke, the firm operated between 1829 and 1898. During the 1840s–70s, Nicholls & Plinke were principal suppliers of silverware to the Russian Imperial Court. They collaborated both with British workshops and with leading local masters such as Carl Tegelsten, Samuel Arndt, Henrik August Lang, and Emil Friedrich Henrichsen.
