Graphics. Signed and dated. In the lower left corner of the sheet: Lee 49. Abel Lee (1918–2010) was an Estonian artist and the first president of the Estonian Artists’ Union in Toronto. He studied graphic art in Tallinn and emigrated to Canada in 1951. His work, often fantasy-inspired and semi-abstract, focused on color and form, blending graphic and mixed techniques.

Eduard Wiiralt (1898–1954) was a renowned Estonian graphic artist, widely regarded as one of the most important figures in Estonian graphic art during the early 20th century. Known for his masterful etchings and engravings, Wiiralt’s best-known works include “Hell”, “Inferno”, “Cabaret”, and “Sleeping Tiger”. He studied at the Tallinn School of Applied Art and later at the Pallas Art School, where he specialized in graphic arts and sculpture. Wiiralt’s career flourished in Paris, where he lived from 1925 to 1938, gaining international recognition, including a gold medal at the 1937 International Graphic Exhibition in Vienna. His works reflect a deep exploration of human nature and societal issues, often through dramatic and dark imagery. Wiiralt’s art is housed in major collections worldwide, including the Art Museum of Estonia and the Albertina in Vienna. He passed away in Paris in 1954 and is buried at Père-Lachaise Cemetery.
