Vladimir Donatovich Orlovskii (1842–1914) was a prominent Russian landscape painter and academician of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. Depicted as a seated Roman warrior, the figure embodies noble restraint and strength through a masterful synthesis of naturalism and classical idealization. The serene dignity of the soldier’s pose and the finely rendered drapery are hallmarks of Dubois’s distinctive “Neo-Florentine” style, blending Renaissance influence with French academic sculpture of the 19th century.
Paul Dubois, both a sculptor and painter, studied in Rome and gained prominence with his Saint John the Baptist (1861), exhibited at the Paris Salon. His refined, spiritual approach to allegorical subjects earned him widespread acclaim, including médaille d’honneur at the Salon des Beaux-Arts in 1865 and 1876.
Dubois’s works — including Military Courage, Faith, Charity, and Meditation — are represented in leading French institutions such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée Camille Claudel in Nogent-sur-Seine

The sculpture captures the hero at rest after battle — his pose calm and resolute, his gaze lowered in quiet reflection. The finely rendered armor, detailed sword, and naturalistic anatomy reveal Picault’s exceptional skill in modeling bronze with both strength and grace.
A leading figure of 19th-century French sculpture, Picault was renowned for his allegorical and patriotic subjects as well as mythological heroes. Trained in Paris, he began exhibiting at the Salon des Beaux-Arts in 1863 and went on to produce more than 500 models during his prolific career. His works often explored virtues such as courage, honor, and diligence, rendered with expressive energy and precise craftsmanship.

Height: 42 cmThis finely cast bronze depicts Pierre Terrail, seigneur de Bayard (1473–1524) — the legendary French knight celebrated as “le chevalier sans peur et sans reproche” (“the knight without fear and beyond reproach”). The sculpture presents Bayard in full Renaissance armor, standing proudly with folded arms and sword at his side, embodying ideals of honor, loyalty, and martial virtue.
Created by Alfred Caravanniez, a French sculptor trained under Aimé Millet at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the work exemplifies the historical realism and patriotic romanticism characteristic of late 19th-century French bronze statuary. Cast by the renowned Barbedienne Foundry, it reflects the superior quality and finish that made the firm one of the most respected bronze ateliers of its time.
Caravanniez’s public works include monuments and statues in Saint-Malo, Nantes, Cholet, and Sainte-Anne-d’Auray, most notably the monumental statue of corsair Robert Surcouf (1903) in Saint-Malo, also executed in bronze by Barbedienne.

Born into a civil servant’s family, Liberich first served in the Life Guards Dragoon and Hussar Regiments, retiring with the rank of colonel. He later studied sculpture at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg under P. K. Klodt, and in 1861 he was awarded the title of Academician.Liberich became renowned for his numerous hunting, military, and genre scenes, as well as his highly naturalistic animal models. Many of his works were produced for leading bronze and silver manufacturers in St. Petersburg, including A. I. Sokolov, P. A. Ovchinnikov, and I. S. Sazikov. His sculptures were repeatedly shown at the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts, as well as at major international expositions, including the World’s Fairs in London (1872), Paris (1878), and Antwerp (1885).
